Recommended Books for Parents
Families Where Grace Is in Place (Paperback) by Jeff VanVonderen (Author) One of the best parenting books I have ever read. Much of the book is devoted to parenting, and Christian Counselor Jeff Vanvonderen shares honestly about his own process of becoming a grace-full parent. Without shaming or guilting, this book helps parents reconsider what it means to really live a free and honest life. This practical and insightful discussion of grace is one you won't want to miss.
Boundaries with Teens: When to Say Yes, How to Say No (Paperback) by Dr. John Townsend (Author) The book begins by giving parents a way to look at adolescence itself, so they can better understand how a teen thinks, feels, and relates to others. Then it provides the nuts and bolts of what boundaries are all about and how to apply them. There are many topically based chapters devoted to specific problems, from moodiness to school problems to aggression. Finally, Townsend addresses the attitudes, conflicts, and difficulties of parents themselves, helping them resolve their own personal obstacles to being an effective maturing force for the teen.
Grace-Based Parenting (Paperback) by Tim Kimmel (Author) Are you seeking direction in getting the parenting thing right? In Grace-based Parenting, you'll find a refreshing new look at parenting based on the example of the ultimate child and family expert - God. Rejecting rigid rules and checklists that don't work, Dr. Kimmel, founder of Family Matters ministries, recommends a parenting style that mirrors God's love, reflects His forgiveness, and displaces fear as a motivator for behavior. As you embrace the grace God offers, you begin to give it, nurturing your family and creating a solid foundation for growing morally strong and spiritually motivated children.
Family Driven Faith: Doing What It Takes to Raise Sons and Daughters Who Walk with God (Hardcover) Family Driven Faith equips Christian parents with the tools they need to raise children biblically in a post-Christian, anti-family society. Voddie Baucham, who with his wife has overcome a multi-generational legacy of broken and dysfunctional homes, shows that God has not left us alone in raising godly children. Voddie is a nationally known speaker and teacher at youth conferences and speaks frequently at North Point Community Church in Atlanta. He has a web site at www.familydrivenfaith.org
